Oceans are considered to be the lungs of the planet and a critical part of the biosphere and are a major source of food and medicine, The United Nations said on the occasion of World Oceans Day. On June 8th, Wednesday the UN called for adopting sustainable efforts in stopping plastic pollution in order to save the oceans from degradation.

The theme of World Ocean Day is “Revitalization: collective action for the ocean” in 2022. This is a year framed by the UN Decade of Ocean Science and the celebration of the United Nations Ocean Conference. This is being organized two years later after being canceled due to the pandemic.
“It is time to realize that, to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and the objectives of the Paris Agreement on climate change, we urgently need collective action to revitalize the ocean. That means finding a new balance in our relationship with the marine environment.” UN Secretary-General António Guterres said.
